Caribbean Cruise

So after 3:10h of flying I made it to the Treasure Cay airport and it was an overall great flight.

I departed from Ocala airport early in the morning as the sun rose over Florida and made my way over Orlando and to the sea for the Caribbean islands.
My flight route from Ocala FL to Teasure Cay in Caribbean islands.
Climbing to FL180

Made it to the FL180
Cruise phase was uneventful apart from unexpected headwind that left my ground speed between 110-120 knots.

As I turned towards the airport the ground speed rose from 115 to 150kt and that helped a lot as at that point I already had yellow fuel warning light on that meant that I had less than 300 pounds of fuel on board.
Descending 800ft/m towards the airport.

Soon after turning towards the airport I started a gentle 800ft/m descent to save fuel. That helped as I was able to bring my fuel consumption down from 300lbs/h to 200lbs/h.

After descending for some time I was able to get my first glance at Grand Bahama island.
I eventually hit the cloud tops at approximately 180000ft and the shallow descent rate enabled me to do some cloud-surfing before it turned into IMC conditions.

After breaking out of the clouds I finally got to see my destination, The Great Abaco island where my destination airport was at. As I was well in VMC I decided to disconnect the autopilot and take it manually from there.

Airport can be seen as a empty area without trees.
Treasure Cay airport didn´t have a windsock so I used nearby airport´s METAR info as a reference for the winds and QNH setting. As winds were 200 degrees at 4 knots I decided to use runway 14 for landing. To set myself up well on an unfamiliar airport I went all the way around it to join left downwind for runway 14.

Turning for downwind runway 14

Turning base
The base leg went smoothly and I was able to bring the airplane down with a smooth, constant descent rate.

On final I noticed that I had a slight crosswind from the right with I was able to conteract with a crab at first which I then changed to a slip to be aligned with the runway.

During rollout I brought my flaps up and my condition lever to Low Idle gate to have an easy taxi.

The flight is completed and the pilot is happy and satisfied with his workhorse. C208 has done it again.

This was the first leg to non-US airport during this tour. I will be soon doing more flights and giving you details about each of them.

Until then have a great day

My epic virtual tour.

Lately I have been flying a lot in my C208 by Carenado around US.

Along the way I have experienced everything from smooth VFR of the west coast to the icing conditions down to minimums of the northeast. Now I have made my way to Ocala Florida and it is time to step into unknown. Far are the up to date approach plates and information to any airport and METAR stations no more that 10NM away.

I will for sure get back to US someday but for now I will explore Central and South America and see what they have to offer.

Here is a link to my flight map (Updated after every flight): http://tinyurl.com/jcesmhl

I will be posting regular updates along the way as well as pictures.

Until next time
